From my pal Mark (via Facebook): "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -- Marianne Williamson (often incorrectly attributed to Nelson Mandela)

Hi Laura, Happy belated Valentine's Day to you. You know, it's funny I never liked Valentine's because it was so silly to commercialize LOVE. I think as much as it is cliche, I find everyday to be "Valentine" if that is what we call it, because there never needs to be an occasion to celebrate Love. It needs to be celebrated everyday. Much to my mother-in-law's dismay, my husband and I do not share V day gifts, just more kisses perhaps! :)

This post reminds me of my own thoughts recently :) I've been letting go of unhelpful, unhealthy habits of thoughts. That's making room in my psyche to let go of objects I no longer need. Which will make room for spaciousness, or maybe even for something I can't not anticipate but will, indeed, need.

Thank you for this!

Simon, I agree! I happened to join a really great club with a mix of advanced people and newer ones. I visit many other clubs as well, and I'm involved with the whole district. I encourage other Toastmasters to do the same! Thank you for the thought!

Hi. You make some good points - can I add a note of caution?

90% of tm groups are great but don't assume that yours will be. Don't just go to the nearest: try it, get objective feedback on it and then try others.... Like I say, 90% of them are great but as a professional I've seen some very (VERY!) bad advice being given there too.

The great thing about them is that you get feedback from your peers, but remember they're just peers, not experts.

I don't want to sound like a killjoy but it's a point worth having at the back of your mind.

Cheers.... Simon
